Cheryl MacKinnon is an Ontario Certified Teacher with a Master's degree in Educational Psychology (Special Education), and nearly two decades of experience working with children with learning differences. Her career has been spent leading Learning Support departments in top independent schools, where she continues to work today, supporting children and their families through the school journey.
Over those years, Cheryl has worked with children across a wide range of profiles, including learning disabilities, ADHD, and autism, with a particular focus on autistic girls, as well as language disorders, sensory processing differences, hearing differences, and medical needs.
Much of her work centres on the plans that shape a child's day-to-day experience at school. Cheryl has spent years writing and implementing effective Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and knows what makes a plan genuinely work: clear goals, the right accommodations, and support that translates into real progress. Building thoughtful, practical support plans that help students thrive is at the heart of what she does.
Cheryl brings more than professional expertise to this work. Her personal journey as a parent has given her firsthand experience navigating the public school system and the IEP process. She understands what it feels like to advocate for a child you love, to hold worries that no one else can see, and to want nothing more than to do the right thing. That perspective shapes the way she partners with every family.
